Saskia Jacobs

Hi, My name is Saskia and I am passionate about flowers!  Freshly picked in the fields, the market or from the flower shop. I also love flowers in art, like the still life paintings from the 17th century, the Golden Age.

With my family I live in the coastal town Noordwijk, just 20 minutes from Amsterdam in Holland, right in the middle of the bulb fields and near the famous Keukenhof. The picture above has been taken in a tulip field near my house.  Every springtime I only have to walk a few minutes to see and enjoy the fabulous colours of tulips, daffodils and hyacints.

My background is PR, Marketing and Communications in the cultural sector and I feel very privileged that I could always combine my passion for flowers and art with my work. I have been working at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam for more than 10 years and for the last 5 years at the Hortus botanicus Leiden (the oldest botanic garden of Western Europe). Not only did I learn so much about flowers and art, but my jobs also enabled me to meet and connect people, travel the world and share stories about flowers, gardening and floral art. Thus leading to an international network of people with that same passion.

My blog Saskia’s Flowers is an exciting next step for me in connecting all flower enthousiasts. Although there will be lots of posts of interesting places from around the world, a big part of them shall contain information regarding flowers, art and green events in the Netherlands. Saskia’s Flowers is the green feel good place to escape to and to be inspired by with a Dutch flavor.

Are you also passionate about flowers and gardens? Do you enjoy travel, museums and beautiful places? Follow this blog or find me on Pinterest, Instagram or Twitter.

Hi Saskia, I am so glad to meet another flower enthusiast on the WordPress!!!
I have been passionate about flowers and art all my life. Now it has taken a more concrete shape through my studies of Ikebana which in turn gave me a reason to create the http://www.IkebanaWeb.com blog.
I for sure will follow your blog and hope there will be more reasons to connect in the future.

I have experienced a wonderful day at Keukenhof and will Post something of that on my Blog in the coming days. I have many photos from gardens visited in my travels and it is often hard to choose which to do next. I loved my visit to Amsterdam. Shirley

    1. Dear Shirley, I know exactly what you mean. In some countries there are several gardens to see and it’s always hard to pick just one or two (you just would love to visit them all). Good to read you loved Amsterdam and the Keukenhof. I look forward to your post about the Keukenhof. I am verry happy to live in the middle of the bulb fields, love to spent a lot of time there. Next spring I will post a lot of pictures of this area. Hope you will love them.
