The official start op tulip season in the Netherlands is this saturday, January 16th in Amsterdam. The event is organised by Dutch tulip growers who build a special tulip picking garden on Dam Square. Anyone can come to pick free tulips here for one day. This festive event sets of tulip season because about 1.7 billion Dutch tulips are expected to bring spring into homes around the world.

Kick off Tulip season

Tulip season is inaugurated officially on National Tulip Day. Tulip season is the period from January until the end of April in which most tulip varieties are available from florists, supermarkets and flower stands. Don’t miss the chance to pick your own free tulips if you are in the Netherlands. Be sure to come in time, Dam Square will be filled with people wanting to get their free tulips!

Tulip events in and around Amsterdam

Keukenhof 24 March – 16 May 2016

Each spring, the Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse come alive with blooming flowers in every colour of the rainbow. Visit the the world’s largest flower gardens. This years theme is ‘The Golden Age’.

Hortus botanicus Leiden

After a visit to Keukenhof Gardens you should visit the historical town Leiden and discover the botanic garden of Leiden University that has been there since 1590. Hortus botanicus Leiden, the oldest botanic garden of Western Europe. The love for tulips started here when Carolus Clusius introduced the tulip bulb in the Netherlands.

Tulp Festival 2016 Amsterdam 1 – 30 April 2016

Tulp Festival wants to bring back the tulip in the city streets with the aim to eventually plant one tulip for each individual citizen of Amsterdam. Around 800.000 tulips are planted throughout the city.

Traditional Bulb Farm 18 March – 16 May

Visit a tradiotional Bulb Farm in Voorhout (about 10 min from Keukenhof), get a tour through the farm and take your picture in the middle of the bulb fields. An amazing experience! We visited the farm last season, read about it in my blogpost.

    1. These kind of flower event should be organised all over the world. Brings together a lot of happy people! I will visit Keukenhof a lot this year and will publish photos through this blog! Great to see you enjoyed it!

    He wat leuk dat je over de Tulperij hebt geschreven. Prachtig he die foto’s van de tulpen. Kan niet wachten tot de velden weer in bloei staan! Misschien zaterdag even naar Adam. Moet erg leuk zijn.

    1. De tip vd Tulperij kon ik niet nalaten natuurlijk! Daar moet je als toerist geweest zijn, de ervaring midden in een tulpenveld te staan met boer Daan moet iedereen ervaren! Ik maak waar mogelijk reclame voor ze!

    1. Amsterdam has a great project, Amsterdam filled with tulips. For every inhabitant they planted one tulip. Soon Amsterdam will be covered in tulips. A very pleasant sight. Are you going to show a pic of London filled with spring flowers?
